The mapper program referred to by The Last Rogue can be found at http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/dungeon_tiles/ or you can email pymapper (at) hotmail.com and I can get a copy to you.

Hopefully it will make dungeon design easier for you.

Oh, and when I want to lay out Dungeon Tiles more slowly, I use Ted's suggestion of shelf liner. I got two rolls (about 2' x 4') of solid (not net-like) beige liner, and drew on 1" squares with a permanent marker. Works great.

I'm not sure how I missed this post back when you first published it. I found my way here from the more recent (in August 2009) battlemaps post. At any rate, I've described my own storage solution for Dungeon Tiles elsewhere. A decent alternative to tacky putty is Scotch repositionable tape. It's lower tack than regular Scotch tape (which also works fine in most cases). I prebuild my Dungeon Tiles maps in most cases, using tape on foam core board.

Good Stuff all around.

If I may add something, as well -- search Yahoo Groups for the Dungeon Tile Mapper. It allows you to create full color maps using Dungeon Tiles on your PC.

My solution to keeping the tiles in place has been to lay out a strip of shelf liner on the table before we start using tiles. It's the thin kind that looks sort of like a net that was dipped in foam rubber. It keeps the tiles in place perfectly, and when we're done it gets rolled up and stuck in the box where we keep everyone's books, dice and such.

As for storage, I found that if you keep the cardboard frames that the tiles came in, you can pop them back in place and they stay pretty well. I pretty much keep the tile sets exactly as they came to me. The biggest downside to this is that I feel like I have pretty severe OCD when I sit there after a session and put each tile back in its little spot.

Good tips, all!

Here's another one:

Track down a sheet of clear perspex to lay over the top of your dungeon layout. This will stop the tiles from moving around in play, and also means you can draw on it using a non-permanent marker - perfect for those Cloud and Wall Powers as well as adding additional features to the layout.

Are you spying on me?......

I actually do each and every step you mentioned here and recommend them to anyone who is curious about how to handle the tiles.

The only difficult part I've had is finding older tile sets that are no longer in print.
