Chessex Mat Versus Pathfinder Flip Mat

Conclusion

There's fewer higher value products than the Pathfinder Basic flip mat.

  • It's super durable
  • It's cheap
  • It's easy to fold up and throw in a GM kit.
  • It uses wet or dry erase markers.
  • It's easy to get

Disadvantages

  • It has creases in it.
  • It doesn't feel as nice as a Chessex mat.
  • Wet-erase markers don't work quite as well on it.

Chessex Battle Mat

  • It's been around forever
  • It feels great
  • It lays flat
  • Wet-erase markers draw really well on it

Disadvantages

  • It requires special care
  • You can't fold it
  • Some wet-erase inks stain it
  • Any ink will stain it if left on too long
  • It's pricy

Other Options

  • I don't know. I haven't tried them. But it's really hard to beat the value of a Pathfinder Flip Mat.
